The Environment Group of the Newlyn Fish Industry Forum are working with CCC's Landscape and Urban Design Unit and Cornwall Enterprise to improve and enhance the areas around the proposed new Fish Market. - War Memorial Area: Pedestrianise as much as possible, remove overhead wires and improve street furniture and lighting.
- Keel Alley: Link visually to the Fish Market and generally improve accessibility; possible uses - stalls, performance, etc.
There was a consultation at the Fish Festival which was received favourably. These are the comments made then and more would be welcome. Fish Festival Comments 25th August 2008 - Please continue with the work
- Improvements much needed and visual impact is important. Traffic consideration must be given to Port Penlee consequences.
- If all the green huts were removed by the Mission it would make an ideal public space; owners to be recompensed by the Council.
- As a regular holiday visitor, I think it's important to be able to park the car conveniently - in order to get out and enjoy Newlyn. I come here to buy fish and ice cream and to potter in the galleries.
- I particularly like idea No.6* because it looks a meeting place for Newlyn communication centre - mobile library etc. and access to the Fish Market if raised to road level.
- We think Tolcarne Bridge should be pedestrianised and as much of this area be restricted to residents** and delivery only.
- Good ideas.
- Prefer No.6* but all worthy of support.
- Lets have the confidence to move it on.
- Move it on.
- I wouldn't like to choose at this time but fully support this important project
- Nice to see so much care and thoughtfulness.
- Grace from Newlyn likes the Anchor statue on No.7.
- 7 & 9 look good for the gardens.
- Have no signs, yellow lines, traffic lights etc. People then have to drive slowly and safely - it has happened in towns in France and has worked.
- Good idea to clean up signage - cables etc. Keel Alley designs look uninspired - but needs integration into town as amenity space.
- Excellent ideas. Think about Park & Ride, or more parking.
