A project to ensure the preservation and future of Newlyn's industrial past received a boost last week.Members of the Newlyn Environment Group welcomed Cornwall County Council's countryside project manager, Peter Sainsbury, for a walkabout around the port's back streets to look at water features, old wells, water shutes and pumps. It is hoped that Mr Sainsbury will be able to help the group as they embark on renovation work on these sites with a £23,265 grant provided by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The group's hopes for the future are to keep local history alive in line with the regeneration of Newlyn. * Anyone who would like to carry out volunteer work on the project should contact Ann Pilcher on 01736 331637 |
